Christmas day pub walks the pooch and family will enjoy

Once the Christmas pudding has started to settle, it is a tradition for many families around the UK to put their walking boots on and take the family out for a trip – often, to the local pub. Seeing as Christmas is meant for all the family, it would be a shame not to include your pooch. As a result, we’ve pulled together a list of the most scenic walking routes across the UK, which also happen to include dog-friendly pubs nearby.

1. Pub: The Craigdarroch Inn
Location: Loch ness, Scottish Highlands

Not only are the staff extremely huge fans of dogs and give out treats to each one they see, it is also said that The Craigdarroch Inn is the only pub in this area with a view of Loch ness directly from the bar. A great location for enjoying a wee dram, whilst the pooches burn some energy with a brisk swim in the lake.

2. Pub: The Gordon Arms Hotel
Location: The Pentland Hills, Near Edinburgh

Pop in to The Gordon Arms Hotel for a refreshment and you’ll be greeted with a warm, open fire to warm your cheeks. The staff here are friendly and inviting, so it won’t be an issue for them to pour a bowl of water for the pooch, too. Straight across from the hotel is a stretch of land known as The Cat Walk, which takes visitors up into the hills and beyond.

3. Pub: Hugh McCanns
Location: Tollymore Forest Park, Ireland

After a scenic walk through Tollymore Forest Park to burn off the excess, it’s on to Hugh McCanns in Newcastle for refreshments and views of the harbour. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, with dogs of all shapes and sizes welcome for a bowl of water to parch their thirst. A cosy and inviting environment, perfect for the family.

4. Pub: The Kirkstone Pass Inn

Location: High Street, Lake District

The hills in the Lake District are ideal for letting the dogs off the lead, with seemingly endless space to run around. Once their little legs are tired out and so are yours, make a pit stop at The Kirkstone Pass Inn; a 15th Century pub and restaurant where you can wind down whilst enjoying the picturesque scenery of the surrounding valley.

5. Pub: The King’s Head
Location: Mabelthorpe, Coastal Walk

After a brisk and refreshing stroll along the coast line, why not stop at The King’s Head in Mablethorpe, where dogs and people are welcome alike. This traditional inn boasts a beautiful thatched roof and serves food daily. Perfect after a run along on the beach.

6. Pub: The New Inn
Location: Dartmoor National Park

With a wide range of ales and West Country cider, this traditional inn epitomises Devon and also serves Michelin star dishes. The pub’s environment is nothing short of homely, as it embraces dogs. This Dartmoor treasure truly is the perfect end destination on your walk through the rolling hills and a cosy resting place for your tired pooch.
